It's not something you can fix in one gaming session though, it's more of a long-term thing. Now that I'm the lord of a couple of cities, I want to clean up my act a bit. In the early game I find that I pretty much have to burn and pillage, just to get by. It isn't difficult to build it back up and by the time you get to mid-game, you won't be needing the extra money you get by being a badass anymore. I was pretty choked with a massive negative rep and stopped raiding villages and pillaging castles. People figure out what you are up to pretty quickly and free cows don't impress anyone after a while. You can't just farm reputation, in Viking Conquest anyway. Giving cows to villages (yes, for free) will also give you a point. Giving donations to holy men increases rep with their religion. Some of them prefer the company of other scumbags but most do not. Behaving like your fellow NPC lords will get you -130 in no time. You can build a good rep slowly over time if you get into the habit of being a decent person in the game. Reputations are much easier to destroy than they are to build up.Ī high reputation has all sorts of benefits from the prices you get from merchants, the interactions with NPCs, etc. Murdering defenceless civilians, burning villages, lying, stealing, etc.
Most things that aren't selfish, greedy or cruel will give you a better reputation.
